Full Definition
A 360-degree wrap of the gastric fundus around the distal esophagus to create a competent gastroesophageal junction and prevent reflux. The procedure involves mobilization of the short gastric vessels, creation of a short, floppy wrap over a bougie, and securing the wrap with non-absorbable sutures. Can be performed via open, laparoscopic, or robotic approaches, with laparoscopic being the current standard. Indications include medically refractory GERD, large hiatal hernias, and complications of reflux disease such as stricture or Barrett's esophagus.
