Hemodynamic tolerance refers to an elderly patient's capacity to maintain adequate cardiac output, blood pressure, and organ perfusion in the face of cardiovascular stressors, medication changes, or procedural interventions. In geriatric cardiology, assessment of hemodynamic tolerance is crucial because aging is associated with decreased cardiovascular reserve, impaired baroreceptor sensitivity, and reduced adaptive responses to hemodynamic changes. Factors affecting hemodynamic tolerance include baseline cardiac function, volume status, medication effects, and concurrent medical conditions. Poor hemodynamic tolerance may manifest as symptomatic hypotension, reduced functional capacity, or end-organ dysfunction with minimal provocation.
