Interval debulking surgery (IDS) is a planned surgical procedure performed after 3-4 cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with advanced ovarian cancer. This approach is used when primary debulking surgery is not feasible due to extensive disease or poor patient condition. The timing distinguishes it from primary debulking surgery (performed before any chemotherapy) and secondary debulking surgery (performed at recurrence).
