Kapandji pinning is a percutaneous fixation technique for distal radius fractures that uses Kirschner wires inserted through the fracture site to act as buttresses against collapse. The pins are inserted in a specific pattern through the cortex on one side of the fracture to support the opposite cortical fragment. This technique is particularly useful for metaphyseal comminution where traditional spanning external fixation might not provide adequate reduction. The method was described by André Kapandji and offers good reduction with minimal soft tissue dissection.
