diffuse large B-cell lymphoma
Also written as: DLBCL — diffuse large B-cell lymphoma
The most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, characterized by large B-cell lymphoid cells that grow diffusely throughout lymph nodes.
Full Definition
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, accounting for approximately 30-40% of cases. It is characterized by large lymphoid cells with B-cell immunophenotype that replace the normal lymph node architecture in a diffuse pattern. DLBCL is an aggressive lymphoma that can arise de novo or transform from indolent lymphomas. The disease is heterogeneous, with distinct molecular subtypes including germinal center B-cell-like and activated B-cell-like variants. Standard treatment involves immunochemotherapy with R-CHOP (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisone).
Usage
Usage note: Always specify 'diffuse large B-cell' for precision; DLBCL acceptable after first use.
