The kappa/lambda ratio compares the levels of kappa and lambda immunoglobulin light chains in serum or urine to assess for clonal plasma cell disorders. Normal serum ratios range from approximately 0.26 to 1.65, while abnormal ratios suggest monoclonal proliferation. This test is crucial for diagnosing and monitoring plasma cell dyscrasias, including multiple myeloma and light chain amyloidosis. An involved/uninvolved light chain ratio ≥100 is one of the biomarkers for active myeloma.
