Full Definition

Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are a class of targeted therapy drugs that block the action of tyrosine kinases, enzymes that play crucial roles in cell signaling pathways involved in cell growth and division. In hematologic oncology, TKIs are particularly important for treating chronic myeloid leukemia with the BCR-ABL fusion protein, as well as certain acute leukemias and lymphomas with specific molecular abnormalities. Examples include imatinib, dasatinib, and nilotinib for CML, and ibrutinib for certain B-cell lymphomas.
