White Aesthetic Score
Also written as: WES — White Aesthetic Score
A validated index assessing the visual appearance of an implant-supported crown by evaluating tooth form, outline, color, surface texture, and translucency.
Full Definition
The White Aesthetic Score (WES) complements the Pink Aesthetic Score by focusing on the visible prosthetic crown rather than the surrounding soft tissue. Developed by Belser et al., WES scores five parameters—tooth form, tooth outline/volume, color (hue and value), surface texture, and translucency/characterisation—each on a 0–2 scale, giving a maximum of 10. A combined PAS + WES score is increasingly standard in implant aesthetics research. Editors must not confuse WES with general shade-matching documentation or ceramic-veneer assessments used in broader restorative dentistry.
Usage
Usage note: Pair with Pink Aesthetic Score definitions in any article reporting implant aesthetic outcomes; distinguish clearly in tables and figure captions.
