The weaning protocol typically involves reducing the assist ratio from 1:1 to 1:2, then 1:3, while monitoring hemodynamic parameters, urine output, and clinical signs of adequate perfusion. Successful weaning criteria include stable blood pressure, adequate cardiac output, absence of ischemia, and satisfactory end-organ perfusion. Failed weaning may require return to full support or consideration of alternative mechanical circulatory support devices.
