amniopatch

Pronunciation: AM-nee-oh-patch

Therapeutic procedure involving injection of platelets and cryoprecipitate to seal amniotic membrane defects in cases of oligohydramnios.

Full Definition

Amniopatch is an experimental therapeutic intervention used to treat severe oligohydramnios caused by preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) or other amniotic membrane defects. The procedure involves injecting autologous platelets, cryoprecipitate, or other sealing agents into the amniotic cavity under ultrasound guidance to promote membrane healing and restore amniotic fluid volume. While showing promise in case reports and small studies, amniopatch remains investigational with limited evidence for routine clinical use. The procedure aims to reduce complications of severe oligohydramnios including pulmonary hypoplasia and limb deformities.

Usage

Usage note: Experimental procedure with limited evidence base. Should be clearly identified as investigational in documentation.
