Full Definition

Growth percentile refers to the statistical ranking of fetal biometric measurements or estimated fetal weight compared to a reference population of the same gestational age, expressed as a percentage from 0-100. For example, a fetus at the 50th percentile is average size, while one at the 10th percentile is smaller than 90% of fetuses at that gestational age. Percentiles below the 10th are often considered small for gestational age (SGA), while those above the 90th percentile may be considered large for gestational age (LGA). Growth percentiles are essential for identifying fetal growth restriction, macrosomia, and for serial monitoring of fetal growth velocity throughout pregnancy.

Usage note: Use ordinal numbers (10th, 90th) with 'percentile'; avoid 'percentile' with just numbers.
