Full Definition
A form of intracranial bleeding affecting premature infants, occurring in the germinal matrix and potentially extending into the ventricular system. The condition is classified using the Papile grading system (Grade I-IV), with higher grades indicating more severe bleeding and worse prognosis. Editorial note: often abbreviated as PIVH in medical records and should not be confused with simple intraventricular hemorrhage.
