Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is an advanced imaging modality that combines OCT technology with motion detection algorithms to visualize blood flow in retinal and choroidal vessels. Unlike traditional fluorescein angiography, OCTA requires no contrast injection and can generate detailed vascular maps of different retinal layers. In neuro-ophthalmology, OCTA is particularly valuable for assessing optic nerve head perfusion, detecting early vascular changes in optic neuropathies, and monitoring disease progression. The technique can reveal subtle capillary dropout, vessel density changes, and perfusion abnormalities that may not be apparent on clinical examination or conventional imaging.
