Perimetry is the clinical technique used to assess the visual field by measuring sensitivity to light stimuli presented at various locations within the field of vision. Modern automated perimetry uses computerized instruments to present calibrated light stimuli of varying intensities and locations while monitoring patient responses. The resulting data creates detailed maps of visual sensitivity that can detect and monitor glaucoma, neurological diseases, and retinal pathology. Standard protocols include threshold testing and suprathreshold screening methods.
