Absence of IDH1 or IDH2 mutations in gliomas, associated with more aggressive behavior and worse prognosis.

Full Definition

The normal, unmutated form of isocitrate dehydrogenase genes (IDH1 and IDH2) in brain tumors. IDH wild-type status in diffuse gliomas is associated with more aggressive biological behavior, resistance to therapy, and significantly worse prognosis compared to IDH-mutant tumors. Most primary glioblastomas are IDH wild-type, while secondary glioblastomas and lower-grade diffuse gliomas more commonly harbor IDH mutations. This molecular distinction is fundamental to current brain tumor classification and treatment stratification.
