The pachymeninges refer to the dura mater, the tough, fibrous outermost layer of the meninges that protects the central nervous system. This membrane is composed of dense collagenous connective tissue and forms a protective barrier between the brain and skull. In neuropathology, pachymeningeal involvement often indicates conditions such as meningioma, metastatic disease, or inflammatory processes affecting this layer.
