T1-weighted imaging is a fundamental MRI pulse sequence that emphasizes the T1 relaxation properties of tissues. In T1-weighted images, fat appears bright (hyperintense), cerebrospinal fluid appears dark (hypointense), and gray matter appears darker than white matter. This sequence provides excellent anatomical detail and is essential for evaluating contrast enhancement patterns after gadolinium administration. T1-weighted imaging is crucial for detecting blood products in the subacute phase, lipid-containing lesions, and enhancing pathology.
