Full Definition

Cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) represents the pressure gradient that drives cerebral blood flow and is calculated as mean arterial pressure (MAP) minus intracranial pressure (ICP). Normal CPP ranges from 60-70 mmHg in adults. Maintaining adequate CPP is crucial in neurocritical care to prevent secondary brain injury from cerebral ischemia. CPP targets may vary based on individual patient factors and underlying pathology. In clinical documentation, CPP values and the interventions used to optimize them (such as blood pressure management or ICP reduction) must be carefully recorded.
