Full Definition

Electroencephalography (EEG) records electrical activity of the brain through electrodes placed on the scalp. In neurocritical care, EEG is indispensable for detecting both convulsive and non-convulsive seizures, monitoring treatment response, and assessing brain function in comatose patients. Continuous EEG monitoring (cEEG) allows real-time detection of seizure activity that may not be clinically apparent. EEG findings help guide antiepileptic therapy and provide prognostic information. Documentation should specify whether standard or continuous monitoring was performed and include key findings relevant to patient management.
