Compressed spectral array (CSA) is a quantitative EEG technique that transforms raw electroencephalographic data into a compressed visual format showing frequency content over time. The display presents EEG power in different frequency bands as colored intensity maps or line plots, allowing rapid review of hours or days of EEG data. CSA is particularly valuable in intensive care settings for monitoring brain function trends, detecting seizures, and assessing the effects of medications or interventions. The technique helps identify patterns that might be missed during real-time EEG review, such as gradual changes in background activity or periodic discharges.
