A test measuring the standing potential between the cornea and retina through eye movements.

Full Definition

An electro-oculogram (EOG) is a technique that measures the corneo-retinal standing potential by recording electrical changes during standardized eye movements. The test involves placing electrodes around the eyes and having the patient perform horizontal eye movements in light and dark conditions. The EOG provides information about retinal pigment epithelium function and is particularly useful in diagnosing Best disease and other retinal disorders. The test measures the light peak to dark trough ratio, known as the Arden ratio.
