A comprehensive sleep study that records multiple physiological parameters during sleep.

Full Definition

Polysomnography (PSG) is a multi-parameter neurodiagnostic test conducted during sleep to evaluate sleep disorders. The study simultaneously records brain waves (EEG), eye movements (EOG), muscle activity (EMG), heart rhythm, breathing patterns, oxygen saturation, and limb movements. Polysomnography is the gold standard for diagnosing sleep apnea, periodic limb movement disorder, REM sleep behavior disorder, and other sleep-related conditions. The test typically requires an overnight stay in a specialized sleep laboratory.
