Atlas-based segmentation is a computational neuroimaging technique that automatically identifies and labels anatomical brain regions by registering individual brain scans to standardized anatomical templates or atlases. This method enables consistent region-of-interest definition across subjects and studies, facilitating quantitative analysis of brain structure and function. Common atlases include the AAL (Automated Anatomical Labeling), Harvard-Oxford, and FreeSurfer atlases, each with specific strengths for different research applications.
