K-space represents the raw data matrix collected during MRI acquisition, where information is encoded in spatial frequency rather than spatial position. Each point in k-space contains information about the entire image, with central k-space data determining image contrast and peripheral data determining spatial resolution. Understanding k-space is crucial for optimizing MRI pulse sequences, reducing acquisition time, and minimizing artifacts. Various k-space sampling strategies such as partial Fourier, parallel imaging, and compressed sensing are employed to accelerate image acquisition while maintaining diagnostic image quality.
