Magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) is a quantitative metric derived from magnetization transfer imaging that reflects the macromolecular content and structural integrity of brain tissue. MTR values are calculated from images acquired with and without off-resonance saturation pulses, providing insight into myelin content, protein density, and tissue microstructure. Reduced MTR values indicate loss of macromolecular organization, making this technique valuable for detecting subtle white matter pathology in neurological diseases.
