Statistical parametric mapping (SPM) is a computational framework for analyzing neuroimaging data that applies statistical hypothesis testing at every voxel to create statistical maps of brain activation or anatomical differences. This approach uses the general linear model to identify significant effects while controlling for multiple comparisons across the entire brain volume. SPM methodology forms the foundation of most neuroimaging analysis packages and enables objective, reproducible identification of brain regions associated with experimental conditions or clinical variables.
