Full Definition

T2 hyperintensity refers to areas that appear bright or hyperintense on T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging sequences, typically indicating increased water content in brain tissue due to inflammation, demyelination, gliosis, or other pathological processes. In neuroimmunology, T2 hyperintense lesions are characteristic findings in multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, and other inflammatory CNS diseases. These lesions represent areas of tissue damage and can be acute or chronic. The location, size, and pattern of T2 hyperintensities help radiologists and clinicians distinguish between different neuroimmunological conditions and monitor disease progression over time.
