A starting point region of interest used to initiate connectivity analysis or tractography reconstruction.
Full Definition
A seed region is a predefined area within the brain that serves as an initiation point for connectivity analysis, whether functional or structural. In tractography, streamlines are generated from seed regions to trace white matter pathways. In functional connectivity analysis, the seed region's time course is correlated with other brain areas to identify networks. Proper seed region selection is critical for obtaining meaningful and reproducible connectivity results.
