Intrathecal Baclofen Therapy (ITB) involves the continuous infusion of baclofen medication directly into the intrathecal space surrounding the spinal cord through a surgically implanted programmable pump. This delivery method allows for much lower doses compared to oral administration while achieving greater therapeutic effect at the spinal level. ITB is primarily used to treat severe spasticity associated with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury when oral medications are insufficient or cause intolerable side effects.
