Stimulation artifacts are unwanted electrical signals that appear in neural recordings as a result of active neurostimulation devices, potentially masking or distorting the physiological signals of interest. These artifacts manifest as high-amplitude, regular waveforms that coincide with stimulation pulses and can significantly complicate the interpretation of electrophysiological data. Stimulation artifacts are particularly problematic in closed-loop neuromodulation systems that rely on real-time neural signal analysis for feedback control. Various artifact suppression techniques have been developed, including template subtraction algorithms, blanking periods, and specialized recording hardware designed to minimize interference.
