Full Definition

Tumor treating fields (TTFields) is a novel cancer treatment modality that uses low-intensity, intermediate-frequency alternating electric fields to interfere with cancer cell division. The therapy involves wearing a portable device with transducer arrays placed on the shaved scalp for at least 18 hours daily. TTFields work by disrupting mitosis in rapidly dividing cells and has been FDA-approved for newly diagnosed and recurrent glioblastoma. The treatment is used in combination with maintenance temozolomide for newly diagnosed patients and as monotherapy for recurrent disease.
