A prenatal test combining ultrasound assessment with non-stress testing to evaluate foetal wellbeing.
Full Definition
The biophysical profile (BPP) assesses five parameters of foetal health: non-stress test reactivity, foetal breathing movements, foetal body movements, foetal tone, and amniotic fluid volume. Each component receives 0 or 2 points, creating a score out of 10. Scores of 8-10 are reassuring, 6 is equivocal, and 4 or less indicates potential foetal compromise requiring delivery consideration. This test is typically used in high-risk pregnancies for surveillance.
