endometrial hyperplasia

Abnormal thickening of the uterine lining that may progress to endometrial cancer if untreated.

Full Definition

Endometrial hyperplasia represents excessive proliferation of endometrial glands and stroma, typically resulting from unopposed estrogen stimulation. This condition is classified as simple or complex, with or without atypia, based on architectural complexity and cellular abnormalities. Atypical hyperplasia carries significant malignant potential and requires aggressive management. The condition commonly presents with abnormal uterine bleeding and is diagnosed through endometrial biopsy or curettage.
