Tocophobia is an intense, irrational fear of pregnancy and childbirth that can significantly impact a woman's reproductive choices and mental health. Primary tocophobia occurs in women who have never given birth, often stemming from hearing traumatic birth stories or witnessing difficult deliveries. Secondary tocophobia develops after a traumatic birth experience. The condition may lead to avoidance of pregnancy or requests for elective caesarean section.
