performance component

The underlying skills and abilities required for occupational performance, including sensorimotor, cognitive, and psychosocial elements.

Full Definition

Performance components are the fundamental skills and client factors that support engagement in occupations and activities. These components include sensorimotor skills (strength, range of motion, coordination), cognitive skills (attention, memory, problem-solving), and psychosocial skills (self-concept, social conduct, coping). In occupational therapy practice, performance components are assessed and addressed when deficits impact a client's ability to perform meaningful activities. The term is less commonly used in current practice, having been largely replaced by 'client factors' in the OTPF framework.

Usage

Usage note: Older terminology; 'client factors' is preferred in current practice
