performance patterns
The habits, routines, roles, and rituals that influence how clients engage in occupations.
Full Definition
Performance patterns are acquired behaviors that are organized in patterns and are used during performance in daily life activities. According to the OTPF, performance patterns include habits (automatic behaviors), routines (established sequences of occupations), roles (sets of behaviors with social or cultural expectations), and rituals (symbolic actions with spiritual or cultural meaning). These patterns can either support or hinder occupational performance and are important considerations in assessment and intervention planning. Understanding a client's performance patterns helps therapists develop more effective and sustainable interventions.
Usage
Usage note: Always use plural form; distinguish from 'performance skills' which refer to observable goal-directed actions.
