The Physician Quality Reporting System was a Medicare initiative designed to promote quality improvement in healthcare delivery through systematic reporting of performance measures. Healthcare providers, including occupational therapists, reported on specific quality measures related to patient care processes and outcomes. While PQRS has been replaced by the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), the concept of quality reporting remains important for occupational therapy practice, particularly in demonstrating the value and effectiveness of interventions to payers and stakeholders.
