Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is an imaging technique that uses intravenous microbubble contrast agents to enhance ultrasound imaging capabilities. The microbubbles remain within the vascular space and provide real-time assessment of tissue perfusion and vascularity. In oncologic applications, CEUS improves lesion detection, characterization, and monitoring of treatment response, particularly for liver, kidney, and breast lesions. The technique offers advantages including lack of ionizing radiation, real-time imaging, and excellent safety profile. CEUS can demonstrate enhancement patterns similar to CT and MRI, making it valuable for lesion characterization and biopsy guidance.
