Clear aligners are a system of sequentially adjusted, thermoplastic removable trays fabricated from digital tooth models. Each tray is worn for a prescribed period and applies light forces to move teeth toward a target position, with the overall treatment outcome programmed using specialised software. The most widely known commercial system is Invisalign, though many proprietary systems exist. Editors should treat brand names such as Invisalign as proper nouns requiring capitalisation, while 'clear aligner' is the generic descriptor and is lowercased. Attachments — small composite resin bumps — are often bonded to teeth to improve tray grip and permit more complex movements.
