Valgus extension overload (VEO) is a specific injury pattern affecting the elbow in overhead throwing athletes, particularly baseball pitchers. The condition results from repetitive valgus stress combined with forced extension during the late cocking and acceleration phases of throwing. This mechanism creates impingement of the posteromedial olecranon against the olecranon fossa, leading to osteophyte formation, loose body development, and potential chondral damage. Athletes typically present with posterior elbow pain and may experience mechanical symptoms such as locking or catching. The condition is often associated with ulnar collateral ligament insufficiency and represents a component of the throwing athlete's elbow pathology complex.
