The varus stress test is a clinical examination technique used to evaluate the integrity of lateral collateral ligaments, most commonly performed at the knee and ankle. The test involves applying a varus (inward angulation) force while assessing for abnormal joint opening or instability. At the knee, this test primarily evaluates the lateral collateral ligament and posterolateral corner structures. Increased joint space opening compared to the contralateral side indicates ligament injury or insufficiency.
