Callus formation is the natural biological process by which the body repairs fractured bone through the development of new osseous and cartilaginous tissue. The process occurs in distinct phases: hematoma formation, soft callus (fibrocartilaginous), hard callus (bony), and remodeling. In orthopedic documentation, radiographic evidence of callus formation indicates healing progression, while delayed or absent callus may suggest nonunion requiring intervention.
