A complication of bone fractures where the bone fails to heal completely despite adequate time for normal fracture healing (typically 6-9 months depending on the bone and location). Nonunion can result from various factors including poor blood supply, infection, inadequate immobilization, smoking, or certain medications. Treatment often requires surgical intervention such as bone grafting, electrical stimulation, or revision fixation to promote bone healing.
