CAD/CAM orthotics involves digitally capturing the patient's limb geometry using a laser scanner or structured-light scanner, rectifying the digital model using specialist software, and then milling a positive model or directly carving the shell using a CNC router or 3D printer. This workflow replaces the traditional plaster-of-Paris casting and manual rectification process.
