In pediatric cardiology, this measurement is crucial for assessing the adequacy of oxygen delivery in patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease or single ventricle physiology. The calculation (CaO₂ = (Hgb × 1.36 × SaO₂) + (0.003 × PaO₂)) helps determine optimal hemoglobin targets and guides management decisions regarding timing of interventions in cyanotic patients.
