A clinical condition characterized by a reduction in the percentage of hemoglobin saturated with oxygen in arterial blood. In pediatric critical care, desaturation events are closely monitored as they can indicate respiratory compromise, cardiovascular instability, or other critical conditions. Normal oxygen saturation in healthy children is typically above 95%, and values below this threshold often trigger immediate clinical intervention.
