The Pediatric Index of Mortality 2 is a validated prognostic tool that calculates the probability of hospital mortality for children admitted to intensive care. PIM-2 uses variables collected at the time of first face-to-face contact between the patient and intensive care staff, including pupillary responses, mechanical ventilation status, systolic blood pressure, and diagnostic category. It is widely used for benchmarking PICU performance and risk adjustment in clinical research.
