Dermoscopy, also known as dermatoscopy, is a valuable diagnostic tool in pediatric dermatology that allows visualization of subsurface skin structures not visible to the naked eye. The technique uses a handheld device with 10-fold magnification and polarized light to examine pigmented and non-pigmented skin lesions. In children, dermoscopy is particularly useful for evaluating melanocytic nevi, diagnosing scabies (by identifying burrows and mites), and assessing various inflammatory conditions. The examination is painless and well-tolerated by pediatric patients, making it an excellent adjunct to clinical examination.
