juvenile xanthogranuloma
Also written as: JXG — juvenile xanthogranuloma
A benign histiocytic lesion presenting as yellow-orange papules or nodules in infants and children.
Full Definition
Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) is a benign non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis that typically affects infants and young children. Lesions present as well-demarcated yellow, orange, or red papules or nodules, most commonly on the head, neck, and upper trunk. While most cases involve only the skin and resolve spontaneously within several years, extracutaneous involvement (particularly ocular) can occur, especially in patients with multiple lesions. The diagnosis is usually clinical but may require biopsy in atypical cases.
Usage
Usage note: JXG is acceptable abbreviation; specify number of lesions as it affects management recommendations.
