Miliaria rubra, commonly known as prickly heat, occurs when sweat ducts become blocked at the level of the stratum spinosum, causing inflammation and red papulovesicles. It is most common in hot, humid environments and frequently affects infants due to their immature sweat glands. The condition typically involves the trunk, neck, and inframammary areas, and is often pruritic unlike the superficial miliaria crystallina.
